Why is Lisa running?

Many years ago I was severely injured on the job.  That injury would have lifelong serious impact on my life and my ability to work physical jobs.  But not only that, the severe and debilitating pain I was suffering was making it difficult to do even basics tasks.  Disability was suggested by my doctors and a lot of medications, that I didn't want to take.  Instead I did my best to access non-opiate therapies like Physical Therapy, Chiropractic and Acupuncture.  These modalities in various times in my life not only reduced my pain, but have given me a new lease on life.  However, due to my injuries and medical events, this also means I'm intimately familiar with the insane costs of healthcare, the headache of insurance companies and how they actively work against your ability to access care.  As a result, I've been a healthcare advocate fighting back against insurance companies whenever possible to help patients and providers.  One example of my advocacy is my proposal to INCREASE access to non-opiate therapies in Oregon went into effect Jan 2022.  This is a direct way to give people options to reduce and/or eliminate opiate usage in the treatment of their pain and improve quality of life.

As a small business owner and working parent, I know the daily struggle of making ends meet and healthcare costs have been a significant burden personally and as a business.  I believe that all people deserve access to care.  I believe all people deserve respect, dignity and care - regardless of your political party, how much money you make, your gender, your race, etc.  You deserve care.  Whether you are between jobs, disabled, working or otherwise - you deserve care.

I am running so that I can continue to do even more advocacy and working directly on creating and passing policy that will help improve access to the healthcare and services all Oregonians need.
